The gap Maestro fills

Sonos stopped building for the Mac.

Their desktop app is Intel-only — it runs through Rosetta on Apple Silicon, and Apple is removing Rosetta in an upcoming macOS release, after which it won't open at all. Sonos's official “Mac experience” is now a browser tab. Maestro is the native Apple Silicon controller the Mac has been missing — fast, local, and built to last.

The fast layer on top

Everything you reach for, none of the clutter.

The official app is powerful but heavy. Maestro is the fast layer on top — the controls you actually use, on the surfaces you're already looking at. No sign-in. No spinner. No cloud round-trip.

Instant local control

Discovers your speakers over the network and responds the moment you tap — no cloud round-trip, no loading screen, even when Sonos's servers are having a bad day.

Private & local-first

No account, no sign-in, no telemetry. Maestro talks straight to your speakers on your LAN — nothing leaves your home network. Your music stays your business.

Native Apple Silicon

Built for Apple Silicon Macs in 2026 — not the Intel-era app running through Rosetta on borrowed time. Opens instantly, sips power, feels like part of macOS.

One-tap grouping

Join any rooms into a group and play them in perfect sync, or break them apart — all from a single tap. Volume follows the whole group or each room.

Full now-playing

Play, pause, skip, scrub the seek bar, shuffle and repeat. Volume and mute per room and per group. Album art front and centre.

EQ with named presets

Flat, Bass Boost, Treble Boost, Vocal and Late Night — one-tap sound profiles Sonos doesn't offer natively. Plus bass, treble and loudness.

Favourites, playlists & queue

Browse your Sonos favourites and playlists with art, then edit the queue — reorder, remove, jump, or save the lot as a new playlist.

Alarms & sleep timer

Wake to your kitchen radio, drift off on a timer. Set alarms and a sleep countdown without digging through menus.

Glanceable everywhere

Home & Lock Screen widgets, Live Activity, Dynamic Island and an Apple Watch app — live controls on every surface you already glance at.

Works with every Sonos speaker — including portables like Move and Roam on Wi-Fi, with battery level shown right in the app. Plus Siri, Shortcuts, global keyboard shortcuts, media-key support, and full light & dark mode.

Now playing

The full controls, with the art up front.

Open a room and you get the whole transport — play, pause, skip, a draggable seek bar, shuffle and repeat — over a soft, blurred wash of the album art. Volume and mute sit right there, per room or for the entire group.

  • Scrub anywhere with the seek bar
  • Shuffle & repeat, one tap each
  • Per-room and per-group volume + mute
  • Album-art now-playing background
The official app buries scrubbing and per-group volume. Maestro keeps them one tap away.

Sound

EQ presets the official app never had.

Sonos exposes only bass and treble. Maestro adds five named presets you actually reach for — tip the balance for a film, soften the night, or lift a podcast voice — then fine-tune bass, treble and loudness underneath.

  • Flat · Bass Boost · Treble Boost · Vocal · Late Night
  • Manual bass, treble & loudness
  • Night Sound & Speech Enhancement on soundbars
Named one-tap presets are a Maestro feature — Sonos has no graphic EQ at all.

Grouping

Whole-house sync, in one tap.

Pick the rooms; the first becomes the group leader and the rest fall into sync. Move music between rooms, bond them for a party, or split them back out — Maestro keeps the group state honest and the volume group-aware.

  • One-tap join & ungroup
  • Group leader handles the source
  • Group volume or per-room trim
Grouping is first-class in Maestro, not buried three taps deep.

Scenes. Your home,
choreographed.

A Scene bundles the rooms, the music and the volume into a single tap. Morning kitchen radio. Whole-house party. Wind-down in the bedroom. Set them once — run them forever. Nobody else makes this the hero.

How Maestro compares.

Honest about where we win — and where we're the new arrival. Maestro leads on native Apple Silicon, Scenes, EQ presets, the surfaces, and one app across every device.

Against the official app, Maestro is the fast layer on top — not a replacement for set-up, Trueplay or system config. There are good third-party Mac controllers too; we respect them, and we win on native Apple Silicon, Scenes, EQ presets, the price for UK buyers, and one unified app across your devices rather than separate Mac and phone apps.

One engine. Every device.

The same fast, local control wherever you are — built on a single shared core, and heading to the platforms Sonos control forgot.

The one Android never had

Great third-party Sonos control on Android basically doesn't exist — the Mac-only controllers can't follow you there. Maestro is coming to fix that, with the same local-first core.

  • Same Scenes & one-tap grouping
  • System media controls on the lock screen

Desktop, beyond the Mac

Sonos is winding down native desktop everywhere — not just on the Mac. A lightweight system-tray app brings the same instant, local control to Windows and Linux.

  • The same grouping & Scenes
  • Tiny footprint, no bloat
  • Local-first, no account
